Travel Fun for Parents and Kids
We've all been there! Three hours into a twelve hour road trip and you're already
wondering whose horribly misbehaved children are in the back seat! Or sitting in the
middle of a packed airplane when your toddler starts giving you that look that you
know means toddler-trouble!
Never Fear! Ideas for fun are here!

We all know the song... but if you don't know all the lyrics, they are as follows...
"The wheels on the bus go round and round , round and round, round and round
the wheels on the bus go round and round all through the town!
The horn on the bus goes beep beep beep, beep beep beep, beep beep beep
The horn on the bus goes beep beep beep all through the town!
The door on the bus goes open and shut, open and shut, open and shut,
The door on the bus goes open and shut all through the town!
The change on the bus goes clink clink clink, clink clink clink, clink clink clink,
The change on the bus goes clink clink clink all through the town!
The driver on the bus says 'move on back, move on back move on back',
The driver on the bus says 'move on back' all through the town!
The wipers on the bus go swish swish swish, swish swish swish, swish swish swish,
The wipers on the bus go swish swish swish all through the town!
The people on the bus go up and down, up and down, up and down,
The people on the bus go up and down all through the town!
The babies on the bus go WAH WAH WAH, WAH WAH WAH, WAH WAH WAH,
The babies on the bus go WAH WAH WAH all through the town!
The mommies on the bus go SHH SHH SHH, SHH SHH SHH, SHH SHH SHH,
The mommies on the bus go SHH SHH SHH all through the town!"
....and start at the beginning again if you want! It could go on for hours!

100 Bottles of Juice on the Wall |
Another song we all know!!!
"100 bottles of juice on the wall, 100 bottles of juice...take one down, pass it around...
99 bottles of juice on the wall!"
Whether it's bottles of juice(bubbles, milk, etc), pieces of cake, etc etc etc,
singing this song can be 100 buckets of fun! ;o)

Drive Drive Drive the Car... |
Sing to the tune of "Row row row your boat"...
Drive drive drive the car gently down the street
Merrily merrily merrily merrily...Life is very sweet!
or
Fly fly fly the plane gently through the sky
Merrily merrily merrily...It's so fun to fly!
The possibilities are endless! The kids usually take over after a round or two
coming up with their own silly versions ;o)

An oldie but a goodie! All you need are your eyes and your brain!
If you've never played, each person in turn spies something and gives a hint at
what it is by saying "I spy with my two eyes ...and give your hint", while the other
players guess what is being spied.
Example: If I am the spy, and I chose to spy the sky, I might say, "I spy with
my two eyes something up high" or "something blue" or "something big" and I would
keep giving hints until another player guesses it.

I'm going to Gramma's and I'm bringing... |
This is like a game we probably all played on the first day of school every year,
except you don't name the other children, you name items you'd like to bring to Gramma's house
(or where ever you chose to "go" ;o) ). Have fun by making the items as wild as you wish!
In turn each player says "I'm going to Gramma's house and I am bringing..."and then lists all of the items
in order that the previous players added and then adds the next item to the list.
Start with the letter "A" and make each item start with the next letter of the alphabet!
Here's an example:
player one says: I'm going to Gramma's house and I am bringing an apple.
player two says: I'm going to Gramma's house and I am bringing an apple and a ball.
player three says: I'm going to Gramma's house and I am bringing an apple, a ball and a clock.
etc. etc. etc.

Make up a story one sentence at a time! Each person playing adds a sentence in
turn to make up a silly story. To make it even more fun, start with the letter "A" and make each
sentence start with the next letter of the alphabet!

A Song and A Game in One! |
Singing to the tune of "Frère Jaques" one person sings physical actions while
the others try to keep up with the song while acting out the actions in the song!
(make sure you sing actions that can be done sitting down)
Here's and example...
Clapping clapping, clapping clapping, blink blink blink, blink blink blink
smiling smiling smiling, frowning frowning frowning, say "Hooray", say "Hooray"...
The possibilities are endless and this game can get very silly!

Pipe Cleaners for everyone! |
If you've seen our craft archive, you know that I love pipe cleaners! They can be loads of
fun, at home or on the road. (You always want to bend the ends down so no one
gets poked in the eye!) Below is an excerpt from our craft archive....
Options to think about for the younger ones-
a. candy canes- just wrap two colors around each other and bend into a cane shape

b. spirals- wrap a stem around your finger or a pencil to make a spiral shape
c. basic shapes- like hearts, squares, circles, triangles, etc etc etc! |
Options to think about for the older ones-
a. a farm or zoo- make horses, chickens, pigs, birds, even a fence to
keep the animals from escaping!
b. a family or group of friends- people with jump ropes, bikes, a chair, a guitar
or whatever you decide to try!
c. your name!
|
Options for everyone-
a. glasses or any other accesories/jewelry
b. flowers
c. butterflies, spiders, ants and fleas...or whatever buggies you can think of!

Want to make your little one(s) their own personal doodle pad with a pencil/crayon attached?!
Imagine not hearing, "Mommy, I dropped my crayon! Can you reach it?" Ha! ;o)
It's a no-brainer! Here's How!
Get a spiral notebook, a length of durable string (about 12 inches should do), and some tape!
Tape or knot the string to the top spiral, and tape the other end of the string to your
writing instrument of choice, and viola! Hours of drawing, writing or doodling fun!
(You could also attach more than one string and crayon, but I would imagine
they'd become tangled pretty quickly.)

The dreaded KNOCK-KNOCK jokes! |
If you have a child over the age of 4, you've probably heard about 50,000 of them,
BUT they really do tickle the funny bones of anyone under the age of 100...if you let them!
When we're stuck in traffic we make up the silliest, most non-sensical jokes we can think of!
It passes the time, and kids sure do enjoy it....
even if all of your jokes are about gridlock! ;o)
